Lucha's Prairie
Years ago, I had the privilege to visit this special place, a farm in eastern Paraguay where the owner, affectionately known as Lucha, started an educational program where city children could live the outdoor experience and learn from nature and from the traditions that have disappeared in the big cities. I loved this idea, this space, and the feeling I and others experienced of true connection to the land and each other while there. I printed this black-and-white photograph in my darkroom and hand-colored it with oil paints, pastels and colored pencils to convey the serenity I felt back then and still remember vividly every time I look at this picture.
